Boil Water Notice Ends

The Tampa Water Department says its water has tested safe for consumption.

New Tampa area residents who have been boiling their water since Friday can ease up on the precaution.

The City of Tampa Water Department has given the all-clear on the boil water notice it issued on Friday, Feb. 22. The notice was issued after the water department’s main treatment plant suffered a power outage, possibility causing contamination in the drinking water supply.

Tests, however, have shown that the water is safe for consumption, a Tampa Water Department media release said.

“The City of Tampa sincerely appreciates all customers' patience as we worked to fully restore water service following a power failure at our water treatment facility,” wrote Brad Baird, the water department’s director, in the release.

The boil water notice included most customers of the Tampa Water Department and some served by Hillsborough County. The county has yet to lift its restrictions, according to its website.
