Father Arrested After Attacking Son With Swords

Lawrence Luther Daniel, 51, charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Although a deadly tragedy was averted, a local father was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking his son with Samurai swords.

Lawrence Luther Daniel, 51, of 1701 Skipper Road in the Breezewood Mobile Home Park, got into an argument with son Bruce Lee Daniel on Monday evening, according to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The elder Daniel became so enraged after attempting to kick his son’s girlfriend out of the house that he took a large sword and swung it at his son, who is 28. The son defended himself with a tree branch, though the sword broke the branch, authorities said.

The son was able to strike the father in the face with a tree branch in self defense and kick the sword away after his father dropped it. But the father then returned with two more weapons - Samurai swords - and tried to again attack his son.

“The defendant swung the swords with such force that had he made contact with the victim, the victim would have sustained life threatening injuries or death,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release.
