Freedom, Wharton Kickball Game Raises Money for Charity

The two New Tampa high schools faced off against each another Friday evening in the inaugural match.

 

Freedom High School students and staff took on Wharton High School students and staff in an energetic game of kickball Friday.

The event was held at Freedom.

"We've always had a rivalry with Freedom," said Barbara Woolley, student government sponsor and French teacher at Wharton. "But rivalries don't have to be mean. We're rivals for a good cause."

Funds raised from the event went to the winning team's American Cancer Society Relay for Life team. The host team turned out to be victorious, taking the match 5-4 in overtime.

It was not immediately clear how much money was raised from the event but admission was $3 and the stands were full.
