Update: Gas Leak Causes Road Closures, Evacuation in Wesley Chapel
A natural gas leak in a building on Bruce B. Downs and Mystic Oaks boulevards has forced an evacuation this morning.
Update Jan. 29, 10:21 a.m.: An all-clear has been given on the gas leak. The roads have reopened and people are now allowed back inside the building that was evacuated, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
TECO is still on the scene, however, making repairs.
A natural gas leak has prompted an evacuation along Bruce B. Downs Boulevard in Wesley Chapel and has also led to some roads in the area being closed.
The leak, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, is contained to a building in the area of Mystic Oaks Boulevard and Bruce B. Downs.
The intersections of Mystic Oaks and Bruce B. Downs and Wrencrest and Bruce B. Downs are closed at this time, a sheriff’s office media release said.
“The gas leak is considered minor according to a sergeant at the scene and (Pasco County) Fire Rescue is waiting for TECO to arrive to shut off the gas,” sheriff’s office spokesman Doug Tobin wrote in the release.
Only one building is being evacuated at this time and Tobin added that “this is not stopping traffic on Bruce B. Downs.”
