Fertilizer Ordinance for Hillsborough County

Did you know?

June 1, 2012, Hillsborough County will put into effect a fertilizer ordinance for commercial and residential properties. This law has been created to improve the quality of lakes, streams, rivers and bays due to runoffs from nitrogen and phosphorus following a storm.

The international agricultural industry is turning more and more to organic fertilizers for crops and landscapes. While synthetic fertilizers use large amounts of nitrogen and phosphate, organic fertilizers are made from composts, meaning peat moss, manure and seaweed extracts.

For information about the ordinance, please visit www.epchc.org.

A great organic solution during this time is a product called BioSI, it contains a very diverse population of microbes. They will work to breakdown tide up nutrients in the soil and add organic matter. As they work, they produce small amounts of nitrogen, They also help the soils be more drought tolerant by loosening the soils with organic matter and promotes deeper root growth to search more moisture.
