Residents Invited to Join Swim Across America

People who love to swim are invited to enjoy the sport while raising money for cancer research, prevention and treatment.

Registration for the 2013 Swim Across America Tampa Bay event allows access to free two-hour swim clinics taking place at Tampa area YMCA locations, including a swim clinic May 1, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the New Tampa YMCA, 16221 Compton Drive, Tampa.

The nonprofit Tampa Bay chapter of Swim Across America will have its second annual open-water fundraising swim benefiting Moffitt Cancer Center at 8:30 a.m. May 18 at Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach, 7 Causeway Blvd., Clearwater Beach.

Last year’s Tampa Bay Swim raised $100,000 for Moffitt, and the group is committed to doubling that this year.

Three-time Olympic champion Brooke Bennett will serve as honorary chair of the event.

Registration for the swim clinics is not necessary. Attendees are asked to bring their 2013 Swim Across America Tampa Bay registration and a driver’s license/ID to the clinic.
