Tampa Metro Area is Most Stressful Place to Live

A new study ranks the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area as the most stressful place in the United States to live. Do you agree?

Feeling a little on edge lately?

That’s to be expected since you call the Tampa Bay area home, according to a new study released by Sperling’s BestPlaces. The research firm that specializes in livability rankings says our metro area is the worst of the worst when it comes to stress. In fact, it put Tampa in the No. 1 slot on its newly released “Stressful Cities 2012 List.”

Sperling takes a number of factors into account when formulating its rankings. They include, unemployment rates, suicide rates, commute time, alcohol use and crime rates, among other things.

When the numbers were tallied, Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater came in with first-place dishonors. These other metro areas also made the Top 5:

  • Las Vegas-Paradise
  • Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall
  • Jacksonville
  • Detroit-Livonia-Dearborn
