Wesley Chapel Wind Ensemble Performing Twice in October

A local community music group will take the stage twice in October for what band director Scott Leahy promises are “two really great concert events.”

The Wesley Chapel Wind Ensemble will open for the University of Tampa Wind Ensemble on Oct. 11 at The Center for the Arts at River Ridge in New Port Richey. Leahy said both bands will offer the crowd a “multimedia experience” and the pair will join forces to close out the night with a rendition of “America the Beautiful.”

The theme is “Destinations,” and the Wesley Chapel Wind Ensemble will perform numbers originating from around the globe.

Start time is 7 p.m. The suggested donation is $8 for adults and $5 for students.

Then on the following Sunday (Oct. 14), the Wesley Chapel Wind Ensemble will repeat their portion on its own at Pasco Middle School in Dade City. It will also include some selections with their jazz band.

Tickets are $10 ($5 for students), which automatically enters attendees in a door prize raffle, Leahy said.

The 5-year-old Wesley Chapel community concert band has about 60 musicians — mostly woodwind and brass players but percussion and a few string instrument players, too. It is a mix of amateur adult, professional and student musicians.

If hearing good music is not enough of a motivator to come out and see the ensemble, Leahy said there is another hook.

“We are trying to raise money to create a scholarship fund for our student participants as well,” Leahy said.
