New Tampa Father Dies Helping Save Son in Riptide

Richard Kerr helped rescue his boy in Daytona Beach but could not be saved himself.

A New Tampa father died saving his little boy.

Richard Kerr, 40, was in Daytona Beach on Monday when 4-year-old son Joseph got caught in a riptide, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Kerr had his son ride his back for awhile until rescuers helped them to shore.

CPR could not save Kerr, but Joseph reportedly had little more than a scratch on his arm.
