Possible Sinkhole Closes Portion of Kinnan Street

Detour route: From Kinnan Street to Cross Creek Boulevard to Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to Oak Preserve Boulevard.

A possible sinkhole has shut down a portion of Kinnan Street in New Tampa.

Details on the size and cause are sketchy at this point, however.

“It was just determined to be possibly a sinkhole,” said Steve Valdez, spokesman for the Hillsborough County Public Works Department. “Our consultant is taking a look right now.”

Valdez said an indentation in the road was noticed before the recent rains, but officials initially thought it may have been caused by leaking water lines.

The closure is between Basset Creek Drive and Oak Preserve Boulevard. The detour route is from Kinnan Street to Cross Creek Boulevard to Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to Oak Preserve Boulevard.
