Water Service Down, Traffic Tied Up in New Tampa
A transmission main has ruptured, causing many New Tampa area water customers to lose service.
Tampa Water Department customers in the New Tampa area are without water due to a transmission main rupture that took place this afternoon.
According to a water department media alert, the main on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard between Amberly Drive and Tampa Palms Boulevard broke. This has caused an interruption in service.
Crews are on scene assessing the damage before repairs begin.

The break has also caused a major traffic backup on Bruce B. Downs, according John Majeski, New Tampa Patch editor.
"It's pretty bad," said Majeski, who was stuck in the jam.
