Facebook Made Me Do It: Being Myself in Business

Facebook has caused many to become more accessible & businesses to be more transparent. How are you presenting yourself as you utilize social media?

I am not usually one to play the blame game but this time, I just can't help myself. I'm a Facebook junkie to a certain degree.  I simply must check my Facebook a few times a day & I have more fan pages than anyone really should (some being neglected).  While I know many business people who have a Facebook business profile & a personal profile, I have chosen to only have one profile on Facebook.

If I have learned nothing else in business, people will do business with you if they feel they know you, like you & can trust you.  This is part of the reason that I have chosen to not separate the profiles.  As a Realtor, many people expect me to be polished, prim & proper (that's what I always thought of Realtors before I became one).  You are supposed to be conservative & never say a bad word, complain about anything or take days off. I am also supposed to drive a luxury vehicle and earn boatloads of money.

Well, thanks to Facebook, I think a lot of people are actually able to learn more about the professionals they decide to do business with.  The good, the bad & the ugly.  If you were to venture over to my Facebook page, there will be the occasional off color joke, rants on days that I'm angry or bothered by things, lots & lots of shoes (I love shoes & makeup...see my other ) and of course, some Real Estate sprinkled in.  All of these things are what makes me who I am.  I do not hide them from the people on my page who have decided to do business with me.  Many of them do business with me because they feel they have really gotten a true glimpse of who I am.  I will be honest, I blogged makeup here because I thought, "who wants to read about Real Estate?" but I have learned that if you are sincere about what you do & you add your own unique flavor to it, people will be interested.  So, while I promise I will still share my girly side, I will also be sure to share some Real Estate information too.  Just to forewarn you, I'm known at The Hurricane In Heels so I just tell it like it is and I wear a stellar pair of heels as I do it.  So, yes, its the fault of Facebook that I have become extremely transparent in my business & share the real me with friends, family & business associates alike.  Are you keeping your personal & business profiles separate?
