Firefighters Save Easton Park Homes

The blaze was stopped within 25 yards of one home.

 

A brush fire that broke out in the Easton Park subdivision around 5 p.m. May 3 nearly claimed one home and threatened others before it was extinguished.

According to a Tampa Fire Rescue media release, the blaze started in about 2 acres of brush in the northeast New Tampa neighborhood.

“The fire was moving quickly towards some nearby homes,” the release said. “Fire crews were able to get a brush truck (a fire vehicle designed for off-road firefighting) in between a threatened home and the flames.”

The home, owned by veterinarian Dr. Dareck DeShields, was saved. The flames were stopped about 25 yards away from DeShields’ home.

The fire took about 40 minutes to contain. No homes were damaged and no injuries were reported, the release said. An estimated 24 firefighters responded to the call.

An investigation into the cause of the fire continues. No further information was available.
