Update: Fowler, Bruce B. Downs Light Down

As storms continue to roll through the area, a number of traffic lights are reportedly not working.

Strong thunderstorms that have moved through the New Tampa area have reportedly wreaked havoc on the rush-hour commute.

Patch intern Carlos Hernandez just reported a major entanglement at the intersection of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and Fowler Avenue. In a tweet he said: "Intersection of Fowler and BBD is out and #traffic there is very scary right now. #Tampa."

Earlier this afternoon, the Tampa Police Department posted this message on its Facebook page:

Due to the weather, there are several intersections with traffic lights out. There is a high volume of calls in dispatch and officers are working to get to the intersections to direct traffic. Drivers are reminded to treat intersections with non working lights as a four way stop.

In a media release issued at 6:43 p.m., the Tampa Police Department reported these major intersections are without power, have only flashing lights or have debris in the roadway:

  • 275 and Fowler Avenue
  • Busch Blvd and Florida Avenue
  • Nebraska Ave and Hillsborough Avenue
  • Hillsborough Ave and Central Avenue
  • Sligh Ave and Central Avenue
  • Fowler Ave and 30th Street
  • Sligh Ave and 15th Stree(tree in roadway)
  • Nebraska Ave and Hanna Avneue
  • 40th St and Hillsborough Avenue
  • 28th St Busch Blvd (tree in roadway)
  • Busch Blvd and Boulevard

The National Weather Service's radar shows a large band of storm activity still in the Bay area. There's a 60 percent chance of storms during the daytime and evening hours tomorrow, as well.
