OMG PD: Ninjas, Bombs and a Samurai Sword

We compile the odd, unusual and 'oh my gosh' police items from throughout the Tampa Bay region.

She was at the Land O' Lakes home to watch the kids and the dogs. But authorities say Jennifer Lynn Byrne, 30, helped herself to the homeowner's valuables.

According to a Pasco County complaint affidavit, Byrne was at the home on several occasions before the homeowner reported that jewelry was missing.

The homeowner told deputies she believed Byrne took the items. In a post-Miranda interview, Byrne admitted to taking "several pieces of yellow jewelry" from the homeowner's bedroom and trading it for crystal meth.

A man who kept “ninja gear” and alleged explosive devices in a residence in Holiday is now behind bars. 

According to an arrest report from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, Edward Day was looking through a dresser he shares with Chad Sutton, 39. He opened a drawer Sutton uses and saw several “ninja like” knives and ninja gear. He also saw what he thought were pipe bombs.

Day called deputies. They came and found four cylinders wrapped in black tape in the drawer. A green fuse stuck out of each cylinder. A deputy also found what looked like throwing knives, a holster and gloves with spikes embedded in the palms.

Day told deputies that he and Sutton had bought fireworks for New Year’s. He said Sutton “is obsessed with ninjas and has been collecting ninja gear for some time now.”

Two teens are jailed and awaiting trial for Armed Burglary and Grand Theft after allegedly stealing a Samurai Katana Sword, firearm and cash from a Gulfport home.

Kane Edward Brooks, 19, and Brittany Leann Hubbard, 18, were arrested on Thursday, Jan. 3, and booked into the Pinellas County Jail.

According to Gulfport Police, the two St. Petersburg teens broke into a home on the 900 block of Freemont St. S. in Gulfport, on Tuesday, Jan. 1.

No one was home at the time.

Two days later, Brooks and Hubbard were arrested for burglarizing the home. Officials say the suspects and victim knew one another.

Brooks and Hubbard were charged with stealing thousands of dollars in cash, a firearm, magazine, gun cleaning case, Samurai Katana Sword and golf clubs.

Police: Man Attempted to Steal Motorcycle Parked at the American Legion Post

A Clearwater man was arrested Jan. 3 on the charge of grand theft motor vehicle after he allegedly tried to steal a motorcycle parked outside of the American Legion Post, Largo Police report.

Milton Anthony Holmes, 42, of Safe Harbor in Clearwater, is accused of allegedly trying to take a 1977 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Jan. 3 at 130 First Ave. SW in Largo.

According to the arrest affidavit, Holmes tried to start the motorcycle but when it would not start he "lifted up his right foot, and changed gears on the motorcycle in an obvious attempt to get the transmission into neutral so it (would) start," police report.

Holmes was arrested on the charge of grand theft motor vehicle, according to online sheriff's records.

After Holmes was read his rights, he "admitted to turning the ignition on and pressing the (start) button (of the Harley) because he 'always wanted one,'" police report.

Holmes allegedly told police "that he regularly touches other people's property when he likes the item," police report.
