Pasco County Sheriff's Office Works on Building Officer-Civilian Relationships

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office held a safety awareness event at the Shops at Wiregrass on Dec. 6 as part of a community outreach initiative.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is working to build a better relationship with the citizens it serves.

Safety awareness events such as the one held Dec. 6 at the Shops at Wiregrass will inform and help build a stronger community that can "work together," Col. Brian Head said.

"It's very important that we form a bond with our citizens," Head said. "What we're really trying to do is reach out to the community, so that they give us crime tips and communicate when things are going on in their neighborhood."

Educating people about safety tactics and crime prevention methods is important to the sheriff's department because it helps make civilians aware of the services that are available to them.

The event showcased a few of the safety units that service the community,  including the SWAT tank, which was paid for with "drug dealer money," community outreach coordinator Tim Couet said.

The lost child prevention unit, traffic enforcement motorcycles, and officers on horseback were among the other sheriff's department representatives at the event.
