Domestic Partnership Registry Begins June 25

Mayor Buckhorn announced on Thursday, May 24, that registration for the will begin on Monday, June 25, at 9 a.m.

"As mayor, I welcome this new opportunity to ensure that all citizens of the City of Tampa have the same basic rights and to spread our spirit of inclusiveness," said Buckhorn in a press release. "This is a community that treats everyone with dignity. We are a city that celebrates our diversity as a strength."

The registry covers gay and straight couples and it gives partners the right to make primary decisions and it gives them access to each other in hospitals. It also allows partners to make life-and-death decisions about the other, including burial details, and it allows partners to list each other as emergency contacts for police and rescue officials, according to TBO.com.

To register, go to the Office of the City Clerk on the third floor of Old City Hall at 315 E. Kennedy Blvd. Registrants cannot make an appointment to register, and both registrants must be present to sign up. The proposed registration fee is $30.

For the first two weeks, starting Monday, June 25, until Friday, July 6, registration will be from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Starting on Monday, July 9, registration hours are from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
