We need economic freedom more than renewable energy. If the market wants renewable "green" energy, it will be built. We don't need to legislate it. It's not the government's job to create markets and it's not good at it either—reference Solyndra. As for raping the land, what good are resources if you never use them? They're not resources then. There. Thoughts straight from my brain to your screen with no pundit talking points. And before anyone gets it wrong, I'm a Libertarian. I want as much freedom as possible for everyone in our country. I don't want to stifle innovation, choice, or personal responsibility. Unfortunately Obama doesn't understand that/agree. But what's even more unfortunate is that hardly anyone else does either.

I would ask him, why it was all President Bush's fault when he was a senator and Bush was president, but now that he is President it is all congresses fault. I would at least not blame everything on everyone else and man up and admit in front of my kids that i'm not perfect and not always right.

@Joe -- markets are terrible at creating new technologies that require huge amounts of research over many years. In the USA, we live by short term financial returns, which these projects never provide. Most government market-making takes place in the form of grants to universities or joint industry/military/US department projects. Government also uses tax schemes to prop up markets. For example, the auto registration fees we pay go to road repair but the wear-n-tear our cars make is minimal and out of balance with fees. However, the big rig trucks that move goods around do far more damage than the fees they pay. So we subsidize trucking through our tax schemes and prop up the trucking industry where it might not otherwise be successful in a free market. Solyndra was a victim of Chinese dumping on the solar market. The solar industry in Germany is suffering a similar fate. If you agree that dumping is outside of the free market, it's hard to blame Obama for Chinese interference. Using resources is possible without "raping the land." Just don't level mountains and fill up streams and valleys in the process (coal). Don't inject toxic byproducts into the drinking water (fracking). Expect to pay 100% of the cleanup for your oil spills. For the record, I'm also a libertarian.
