Woodmont Charter School Teacher Wins New American Hero Award

Bridget Burns received the honor for excellence in teaching.

Executives from the Clarion Council and the Florida Charter School Alliance announced that Bridget Burns, a fourth-grade teacher at Woodmont Charter School, has been named a New American Hero in a teacher recognition program designed to highlight the success of high performing schools and reward those teachers who have made a significant investment in their students' lives.

The winners from participating schools in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Illinois and Indiana were nominated by fellow teachers, administrators and parents. Each of the 44 winners won $1,000 and will be eligible to win the annual New American Hero of the Year $5,000 grand prize.

Burns has five years of elementary education experience, complemented by a master of education degree and certifications inkKindergarten through sixth grade education and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
