A “written threat” against Freedom High School turned out not to be credible.
According to a phone call and email Thursday from school staff, Tampa Police and Freedom security investigated the matter and found out the school was never in danger.
“Nonetheless, we thought this would be a good time to practice evacuating students,” Principal David Sheppard said.
Last year, an expelled Freedom student was arrested after threatening to blow up the New Tampa school.
No other details were immediately available about yesterday's incident and what the "written threat" actually said.
Here is a transcript of the call:
This is Mr. Sheppard calling from Freedom High School. I want to make you aware of an incident that took place today. Tampa police and school security investigated a written threat against the school and determined that it was not credible. Nonetheless, we thought this would be a good time to practice evacuating students. Everything went smoothly and no one ever was in any danger. If you have any questions, please call us here at the school. Thank you for supporting Freedom High School and our efforts to keep our students and staff safe.
