We Want Your Nonprofit to Be In the Spotlight

New Tampa Patch hopes to highlight nonprofit groups on a regular basis. Suggestions wanted.

It has been reported there are more than 1.6 million nonprofit organizations in the United States.

Here at New Tampa Patch, we want to know more about the ones in our own backyard! From charities to public arts organizations to trade groups, nonprofits often pursue some of the most interesting and meaningful endeavors.

Do you work or run a nonprofit? If you know of an interesting nonprofit that you think should be given the spotlight here at New Tampa Patch, let us know!

We have already profiled one called Outreach Assisting Students In Schools, or OASIS, which was founded in 2001 by a couple of New Tampa mothers “who saw students in the Hillsborough County School District who, due to any number of reasons, lacked basic necessities such as school supplies, school uniforms and decent clothing,” reporter Sean Bowes wrote in

OASIS works with the Hillsborough County School District, the nation’s eighth-largest school district. More than half of the students here qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. OASIS helps these students by providing everything from new socks to toiletries like toothbrushes and hairbrushes.

The Nonprofit Spotlight feature has been used at other Patch sites with success. Hopefully it will be well-received here as well.
