GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview May 24-26

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the New Tampa area.

New Tampa Y Swim-A-Thon

To increase awareness of child drownings, the New Tampa YMCA, 16221 Compton Dr., Tampa, will host a swim-a-thon Friday, May 24. The event is intended to raise funds to give a child swim lessons. Each $55 raised pays for swim lessons for one child. Residents are urged to collect sponsorships for the number of lengths swam in one hour. Check-in begins at 6 p.m. 

Morning Pack Walk

The New Tampa Dog Pack gives residents a chance to socialize and exercise their dogs. It meets Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m. at Flatwoods Park, 18205 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., Tampa.

Soap Design Class

The Soap Factory, 17024 Palm Pointe Dr., Tampa, hosts a soap design class each Friday from 7 to 10 p.m.

Open Mic Night

WOB-Tampa Palms, 17004 Palm Pointe Dr., Tampa, hosts an open mic night each Sunday at 4 p.m.

Live Music at The Brass Tap

The Brass Tap, 2000 Piazza Ave., Wesley Chapel, features live music each Friday and Saturday starting at 9 p.m.

Live Music and Dessert

Toast Fine Wine & Cigar Bar, 14921 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., Tampa, offers live music and dessert each Saturday at 8 p.m.

Live Music at Mulligans

Mulligans Irish Pub at Pebble Creek, 10550 Regents Park Dr., Tampa, features live music every Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Group Bike Ride

The New Tampa Triathlon Club hosts a group bike ride each Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at Flatwoods Wilderness Park, 13330 Morris Bridge Rd., Thonotosassa.

Pokemon League

Teens are invited to join the New Tampa Pokemon League Saturday, April 13 at 10 a.m. at the New Tampa Regional Library, 10001 Cross Creek Blvd., Tampa. Fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game and the Pokémon video games get together and play Pokémon playing cards and Nintendo DS. Pokémon league leaders will be on site to facilitate the gaming. This group meets every Saturday in the Jeri Zelinkski Community Room.
