Like Freedom High School that sits next door, Liberty Middle School is named in honor of the victims who lost theirMore lives in the Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attacks. This educational facility, tucked away in the Tampa Palms subdivision, features both before-school and after-school programs. It serves more than 1,100 students in grade 6 through 8.

According to 2009-2010 data from the state Department of Education, the school's ethnic make-up is 52.1 % white, 19.7% black, 17.4% Hispanic, 7.2% Asian and 3.4% other. Nearly 43% of the students are considered economically disadvantaged.

The school's slogan is "Our Pride Runs Deep." Its macot is an eagle.

An "A" rating is consistently assigned to the school by state officials.

The recreation center features an Olympic-caliber, 12,500-square-foot gymnastics area; plus multipurpose room, playground equipment and a concrete skateboard/inline skate park with enough curves and inclines to make pro skater Tony Hawk jealous.
