Bus Driver for Wharton, Heritage Elementary is County's Youngest

The Tampa Tribune profiles Maurice Jones, 22, who is also a mentor and a college student at USF.

 

The Tampa Tribune profiled a 22-year-old Middleton High graduate who is Hillsborough County's youngest school bus driver in its Thursday edition.

Maurice Jones, whose route includes Wharton High School and Heritage Elementary in New Tampa, has been driving a bus for the district since last fall, the Tribune reports. It's a part-time job for Jones, who also takes night classes at the University of South Florida to finish up his accounting degree.

Jones said he enjoys interacting with the students on his route.

"I try to build a relationship with them when I can," Jones told the newspaper. "You have some who are going to be downright rebellious. Those you just have to handle."

Jones also works as a mentor for freshmen students in the College Assistance Migrant Program, the Tribune reports.
