Wharton's Hasbini Earns 'Instructional Support Employee of the Year'

Leena Hasbini of Wharton High School has been named Instructional Support Employee of the Year by the Hillsborough Education Foundation.

The title was given Thursday during the Excellence in Education Awards, held at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts.

Hasbini manages the Success Center at Wharton. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Hasbini earned a master's degree in counseling from the University of South Florida. 

"She is a stellar example of professionalism in education," Marilyn Craig-Wicktor, Career and Technical Education adviser, told the Times.

Hasbini was one of three awardees Thursday. Daisy Ramirez of Trapnell Elementary won the Ida S. Baker Diversity Educator of the Year award while Yolanda Whitehead Driskell of Hillsborough High took home Teacher of the Year. 

As part of their prize, the trio will each receive a limousine ride to work one day next week.
