New Tampa Selmon's Location Will Not Reopen After All

After temporarily closing its Dona Michelle Drive location in August for construction, the chain has announced it will be relocating to "another site in the community."

When Lee Roy Selmon's temporarily closed its Dona Michelle Drive location in August for construction repairs, rumors began to swirl that the chain would not actually reopen.

Officials with the chain had said they would reopen the New Tampa site unless something "highly unusual" happened. Well, things have changed.

Lee Roy Selmon's released a statement late Friday stating the chain will be relocating to "another site in the community" based on costly repairs to the New Tampa structure and lease renewal terms.

Sam Tancredi, president of Lee Roy Selmon's, said it was a simple business decision. The new location will be in either New Tampa or Wesley Chapel but specifics have not been released.

"The economics make sense for us to build a new restaurant with our updated interior and exterior design," Tancredi wrote. "Most of our employees have already been relocated to our Brandon and South Tampa locations and have the option to transfer back once the new restaurant is built."

Selmon's New Tampa was a popular spot for sports fans. Locals were especially bummed the closure came as the NFL season was about to kick off.
