Afternoon Storms on New Tampa’s Horizon

Don’t put those umbrellas up so fast, New Tampa.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service’s Ruskin office say the week ahead will see a return of a more normal summertime weather pattern. That means highs in low 90s and rain chances that hover between 30 and 40 percent most days.

Meteorologist Rodney Wynn said rain chances are highest on Tuesday, Sept. 3, coming in around 50 percent. For the rest of the week, Wynn said the winds will shift to a more easterly pattern, bringing about a 30 to 40 percent chance of storms in the afternoon hours.

All in all, the forecast, Wynn said, is “pretty seasonal for September.”

While our weather should be fairly typical for this time of year, Wynn said forecasters are paying close attention to three areas of low pressure. Scattered from just off the coast of Africa to the western Yucatan Peninsula, the systems have a low chance of developing into the season’s next tropical storms.

Even so, Wynn said they bear watching, but “there’s not a whole lot to worry about right now” as far as Tampa Bay is concerned.
