Lee Roy Selmon’s Coming Back to New Tampa

Those who were sad to see Lee Roy Selmon’s close its New Tampa location in August 2012 now have reason to rejoice.

The sports grill, a tribute to the late Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Tampa Bay Buccaneer legend Lee Roy Selmon, plans to re-open at 17508 Dona Michelle Drive by the end of the year.

“This neighborhood has been extremely welcoming and supportive,” said Sam Tancredi, president of Lee Roy Selmon’s, in a statement. “It was a very difficult decision to close our doors, and that is why we have worked so hard to re-open.”

Storm damage originally forced the restaurant’s closure, which was supposed to be temporary. But in November 2012, Lee Roy Selmon’s issued a statement saying the restaurant’s repairs were too costly, so it would instead relocate to another site in the community.

“Although we considered other sites, we had a strong desire to stay in the same location,” Tancredi said in the company’s latest statement.

New Tampa diners will find a completely renovated sports grill with an updated interior and exterior design, according to the statement.

Tancredi has previously said the location needs an interior remodel, a new roof, and a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.

Several community events to celebrate the grand re-opening are being scheduled and will be announced in the coming months.

“We couldn’t be more excited to re-open,” Tancredi said in the statement, “and we look forward to serving our neighbors in the very near future.”
